CGRP Inhibitor

CGRP inhibitors are a class of therapeutic agents that target the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) pathway, which plays a significant role in migraine and cluster headache mechanisms. CGRP is a neuropeptide involved in pain transmission and the dilation of blood vessels in the brain.

By blocking CGRP or its receptor, these inhibitors help prevent or reduce the frequency and severity of migraine attacks. There are two main types: monoclonal antibodies that block CGRP or its receptor, and small molecule antagonists known as gepants.

CGRP inhibitors are considered a major advancement in migraine management because they offer targeted relief with fewer systemic side effects compared to traditional therapies. Research continues to explore their potential in treating other neurological and inflammatory conditions where CGRP is involved.
